PoT: Standalone: Fortune

Fic post from my archive.
Atobe encounters Yukimura at the museum, they fall to chatting, and events take a rather sharp left turn.
Yukimura rested his chin on one hand, and lifted his brows. He was, Keigo decided, perfectly well aware of what Keigo wanted to ask and was going to sit there with that attentive expression and watch Keigo squirm while he tried to come up with a courteous way to do it.

Date: 2004-07-19 06:51 pm (UTC)The exchange at the end where Atobe asked about Sanada was interesting. And I'm like Atobe, I work better with people :D or at least I feel more interested. XD;;; I hate still life.
Chiaroscuro. Light and shadow. And another after it. Kikkyou. Fortune. Sunshine and shadow.
*_____*<33333333 love the part about Fortune :D!!
hehe Yuki is such a sneaky seductress X3~~ oh and interesting observation about how their texture is like Impressionism. <3
(special AtoYuki icon for you <333)

Date: 2004-07-19 08:33 pm (UTC)As Jirou might put it: Snaz-E!
Ah, good that you liked it. And good that the art references worked; my only experience with sketching is as the model. ^_^;

Date: 2004-07-19 06:58 pm (UTC)So, so very right. Yes.
And how like Atobe to worry about valuable bits being broken off *after* the fact.

Date: 2004-07-19 07:59 pm (UTC)'subsided'? Okay... so, yeah, maybe 'fall' wouldn't have worked as nicely as 'collapsed', but... {grins} 'subsided' is *so* right for these two... ^_^;;
I liked their interactions with each other, but the Sanada comments had me giggling like a school girl.... So used to seeing Sanada-Atobe or Yukimura/Sanada that this was definitely an interesting change. And how nicely characterized.
Now. Please tell me you've starting working on a sequel? (I know, I know--you have other fics to focuse on first)

Date: 2004-07-19 08:37 pm (UTC)*grins* Thank you, dear!
*howls* No! Good grief, woman, are you trying to kill me? I have to finish Challenge, and then there's the Kiri-centric arc that wants to follow it, and Momo and Ryouma are getting tired of waiting, and, and, and... *pitiful whimper*

Date: 2004-07-20 02:36 am (UTC)I know! I was just teasing! Just because you have the capablity of making me actually consider the possiblity of Atobe and Yukimura making a believable couple does *not* mean you should pursue that thread of thought... No, honestly. Just because there are beautiful images dancing in my head of two beautiful boys making out in a garden.... Yeah, well {coughs}
a Kiri-elf arc to follow Challenge, eh? sounds... like... fun. {grins}
OOOH! Momo-Ryo! Yeah! ^___^ yes, they're not the most exactly *patient* pair of the series, are they?
Well, good luck to you! I'm just happy I managed to get some writing done on the plane. Now my Yuushi-Gakuto fic seems to be coming along quite nicely and should be finished before the end of the month! Yeah!

Date: 2004-07-20 04:55 pm (UTC)Actually, considering that I was working on my MomoRyo branch when Rikkai waltzed in and stole my soul, the boys have been remarkably patient. But they're starting to poke me again. Especially since the story hanging over my shoulder right now has an appearance by Karupin, who I love dearly. He's a cat. He knows how to take advantage of these things.
I'm impressed. The only writing I ever managed to do on a plane was some poetry, while returning from a Woolf conference and high on Dramamine. It was an interesting experience.

Date: 2004-07-20 11:37 pm (UTC)You know... to be honest, I dn't remember a MomoRyo story line from you.
Okay, to be brutally honest, I can barely remember my own name at this exact moment, and will probably be toddling back to the bed from which my mother so lovingly woke me twenty minutes ago, but, hey! priorities are priorities. So, no more napping until email's finished. ^.^;;;
Was this a story you've already started posting? Is it possible I've missed reading some of your stories.... :\ That's not good...
Well, you *do* realize Karupin is the one *true* prince of that show... {nodsnods}
I can sometimes write anywhere--it's why I try to always have at least a mini-notebook with me...or else I'm likely to get an idea (or more) and be absolutely annoyed and... Yeah. Mostly I just sleep on planes, trains, and automobiles, but I still gotta have a notebook for those ideas that just wiggle their way into my head, ya know?

Date: 2004-07-21 12:39 am (UTC)The story knocking on my brain right now does, in fact, feature Karupin being his wonderful self. I love that cat.
Now, to see whether it will be that bunny, or the Sanada/Yanagi bunny that will win the wrestling match to be next...

Date: 2004-07-21 01:23 am (UTC)"adorable, but contrary"---yep, very good description for Momo & Ryo. ^.^ {thinks of her own Ryoma-Momo story... and wonders if she should get back to that story after the Yuu-Gaku}
Okay~! Daddy got my laptop to turn on again, so I guess I'll *finally* get to do some writing today... oh, and look! It's only 9:30 at night >.< damn...

Date: 2004-07-19 08:13 pm (UTC)The brain melts. The brain melts.
I love you, and kiss the ground you walk on.
This! This! This! "How can you possibly doubt yourself?"
So perfect. So in character. So WONDERFUL!
Please let me have your brain.

Date: 2004-07-19 08:39 pm (UTC)Er, you sure you want my brain? It's kinda out to lunch these days... On the other hand, if I melted yours, I suppose I'm obliged. ^__^

Date: 2004-07-20 06:34 am (UTC)So much love, especially for an Art History geek like me. XD Their texture is very Impressionist, especially Yukimura - I always associate him with Monet's paintings of his gardens at Giverny, but he also belongs in the Renaissance, with all the lights and shadows. Dammit, they're such a pretty pair. XD I loved the bit at the end, about Sanada (and Yukimura's reaction, shows he's not as delicate as he looks XD): as much as I love SanaYuki, the other ways of looking at their relationship are equally fascinating. <3

Date: 2004-07-20 05:04 pm (UTC)Mmm. Yukimura + garden = very Monet, yes.
*giggles* I just had this sudden vision of how Yukimura would react to assumptions based on something like the height rule. Atobe rather liked the results, though.

Date: 2004-07-29 07:20 pm (UTC)And one more thing...I have to be sincere here, but...I don't like when Atobe is called 'Keigo'. I can accept when someone that really knows him calls the guy this way, but not in the entire fic. I don't know..just...don't feel like Atobe to be.
Even though I call him Keigo sometimes, it's just sometimes. He's so...Atobe to be called Keigo during all the times.
About Yukimura I have to say just one thing: Yukimura was completly Yukimura in this fic :-)

Date: 2004-07-29 08:32 pm (UTC)Do you mean it sounds strange to you for Yukimura to call him that, or for the narrative itself to call him that? Because it's actually one of my own personal irritants when a story is told from inside the head of some character who always seems to be thinking of himself by his family name rather than his given name. So, whenever I write in intimate third person, which is pretty much all the time, I use the given name; it does give a story a very different flavor than the source text, though. I think it's one of the knottier problems of writing a story in words that's based on a story in images.

Date: 2004-08-01 09:59 pm (UTC)Yes, Chaco-chu~ is comepletely responsible for anything that has to do with AtoYuki.
But anyway...
Eep. When I saw the label I was wondering how it would be managed...but you! YOU! I should'ved known Emily would take the cake. *glowers*
I weep at the beauty of your detailing and the characterization. Your fiction always strike me as wonderfully intelligent - a rare case in fanfic, as you might've noticed. But research is always adored by me.
And I adore this fic. And the artist in me adores this fic.

Date: 2004-09-19 07:18 am (UTC)Like everyone else said, the Sanada comments, especially their timing, were great, but... You know what my favorite line is? ^^ The bit about having a habit of prodding dangerous things, just to see how dangerous they are. <3 I have much heartage for that part. X3 So very like him.
And, beyond a doubt, Yukimura is a dangerous thing. Machiavelli is, I think, the perfect comparison. People sometimes forget, I think, that he's the captain of Rikkai. Dangerous by default, and twice as sneaky. So. much. love! ^____^
You did good, you did very good. and now I shall join the clamoring for a sequel, pleasepleaseplease? ^_^

Date: 2004-09-19 03:38 pm (UTC)People sometimes forget, I think, that he's the captain of Rikkai. *huge nodding* I can buy that Yukimura is kind, and rules his team more by moral suasion than by force. I can't buy that he's wimpy or inneffectual or naive. *hearts Yukimura*
*squints at story* This one, I think, will probably continue as a stand-alone. It's never spawned a sequel-bunny, despite how much fun it was to write these two.
