Taizu = canon girlfriend

That is to say, I'm seeing a lot of similarity in how Lau Wu Fei, of Shin Petshop of Horrors, is treated by D/Leon fans and the way just about any canon girlfriend is treated by fans who wish to pair the hero with someone else. He's dismissed, reviled, and generally stomped on for reasons that do not actually have to do with his character.
I would very much like the particular brand of D/Leon fan who does this to knock it the fuck off.
Totally aside from the fact that I happen to like Lau, there is absolutely nothing stopping them from reveling in the first ten volumes and writing D/Leon fic and manifestos to their hearts' content.
In addition to that, I happen to like Lau. And, because of the degree of "omg, he's not Leon, HE IS EVIL" running around, I'm about ready to wash my hands of the damn fandom.
So, my dear flist, what do you think? Should I mention (more diplomatically than this, probably) that those D/Leon fans need to stop harshing other people's squee? Or is that just asking for a flamewar on the comm?

*shudder* The PSOH fandom seemed to come together for the sole purpose of creating mpreg. Really, I'm okay with it in small dose where the pregnant party isn't acting like a stereotypically evil pregnant woman, but most of that was just BAD. And they all seemed to think it was such a great idea! *bewildered*
Just sayin'... they might be crazier than we. ¬.¬ I know they're as crazy as the Inuyasha slash fandom.

You know, the /best/ revenge would be to write some really really hot D/Lau. I'm just saying.

Date: 2008-03-21 10:14 pm (UTC)That actually went down fairly well at the time; x-posted it to a website that was about defending Jaken and to Inuyasha the RPG where some of the bashing was occurring...
I have no idea if it enlightened anyone or at least let them know that one of admins of the board, with the power to boot from chat and ban from board and most likely to approve characters.... was not... /forgiving/ of such active opinions of Jaken..... :D
But hmm. That wasn't yet infringing upon an OTP... WHich is a far more rabid beast.
I don't think there is anything wrong with posting a defence essay, though obviously it would be up to you if you wanted to deal with flames... It's unusual for defence essays I've seen to get flames, they usually get ignored. ^.^;; (Unless by defence it outright attacks something else..)
But the world /always/ needs more porn.
(has only seen a little bit of the beginning, for both manga and anime, don't know the character in question sorry. D: )

Date: 2008-03-21 10:24 pm (UTC)What I find most intriguing is that, while the first series was set in the US and dealt with the cultural conflicts between D and Leon, Lau is Chinese, just like D, and their relationship is shaping up to be different because of that. Just as growly and adversarial, but not as... skeptical, I suppose.
