Yumiko is the daughter of a courtesan; her father is Fuji's father, though none of them are, as yet, aware of this. *wry* I suppose you could say she's of the samurai class, by blood, but she's far from proper spouse material. *thoughtful* Fuji doesn't have the motivation to be an officer. He'd do it to get enough money/position to buy out Yumiko's contract, but he doesn't want it for its own sake. *grins* Yet.
