Washed Dry

Fuji decides to try his hand against Echizen. It provokes a lot of thought. Drama and Romance, I-3

Shuusuke felt a touch of excitement flicker along his nerves as they moved out into the open, feet scuffing up tiny puffs of dust to mark where they set themselves. Echizen was good. Not good enough to make Shuusuke lose, but perhaps...

*squeaks* *squeaks some more*

I don't know what I like most -- the brilliant-sharp edges of the fight, or the friendship between Tezuka and Fuji, or the tenderness between Tezuka and Ayame, or the beautiful tragedy of Yumiko and Fuji...

*settles for loving it all and squeaking some more*

I'll echo Em, and raise her two buckets of warm, gooey, goo.
[grins] and the title of this bit... ^_____^ Did so enjoy it all.

Fuji will always be my first love of tenipuri; he never ceases to amaze me. I'm very glad he was agreable enough to share with you for this story line. I know we've mentioned how much more we're enjoying these scenes with sharp pointy objects... I'm actually a bit surprised someone with artistic skills hasn't attempted to draw these yet.

This was a sweet bit. It sometimes scared me how easy it was to picture the boys in traditional marriages. Tezuka always seemed like the one who would be the happiest. I don't know why, but I'm glad it found its way into this story line. And in true Japanese fashion: the man makes the money and the woman controls it and the house! It does prove a problem for Yumiko and Syusuke, though. Is she the daughter than of a courtesean, that she doesn't know who her father is? Although inheritance is passed from mother to daughter, parentage was still improtant for political ties. But it makes me question--is Fuji's choice not to become an officer because of his lack of desire to, or because it would still prevet him from having what he wants?

....just to say that I posted that review before seeing this comment, and aha! *grin* I didn't think you'd leave out that potential complication so easily.

I've delayed on commenting on this for a while, partly because of my reactions to the piece. I had a hard time with the relationships, partly because I have this sense of the canon relationships superimposing over my reading. But the Fuji/Yumiko really works for me, despite that reading.

And I love Tezuka being understated and wise. "Even someone who finds his way doesn't always go down it."
