I'm fairly sure they were betting on how long it would take Momo and Ochibi to come treking up the hill after them for a decent game. Inui, of course, got it right because he's in communication with Kaidou.

And Kaidoh doesn't need these extracurricular training sessions because he's in communication (cough) with Inui, perhaps?

Fuji probably ought to know better than to bet with Inui.

Precisely. *leer* At this rate, I really will write InuKai, which, thus far, has eluded me.

I feel for them both. Paperwork is always a hassle when you just want to get out there and deal with the people rather than the papers. Even if the papers are less likely to strike back, at least the people are more interesting, na?

Infinitely more interesting. Even Tezuka always looks a little pained when he's dealing with the paperwork. I figured Momo and Ryouma must hate it even worse. ^_^

Echizen-buchou.

You know, logically I know Ryouma -will- be the captain after Momo (he'll definitely bet he next captain, he has the skills), but the thought of Ochibi doing the job put the fear of god in me (or the other regulars). Yes it does.

However, having said that, it is also extremely clear that Ryouma would make an excellect captain. If he lack skills in communication he makes up for it in his ability to see weaknesses and strengths in a person under 5 sec flat, and he'll always make you know if you're doing a good job or not. In his own way.

Anyways, adore this fic, absolutely adored, Ryouma and Momo's interaction was just perfect, but I have to say Inui and Fuji's brief appearance and Ryouma's urge to hide made me laugh -very- hard. Love. I'm -very- interested in this arc.

Eehee. I'm not sure how much of his captain-ing I'll wind up showing, but his year will definitely be an interesting one. I'm definitely making Kachirou his vice-captain, though. Someone with actual human communication skills...

Hmm, you know Ryouma is like Tezuka when it comes to communications, except where Tezuka is more of a whole body-language thing, Ryouma is more of a Smirk-speak.

Fi~nally! *cuddles* You can already see the first glimmers of the MomoRyo - just the way they interact, and how they genuinely ~like~ being around one another.

And I can't help but love the Hiyoshi-Kaidou parallel. It's so appropriate, but you wouldn't think of it, unless you looked closer. Oh, and I assume that we will get to find out, sooner or later, what the bet between Inui and Fuji was all about. ^.^

*snuggles* They're actually kind of a hard pair to write, because so much of their interaction is so non-verbal. But they're so cute about it, I forgive them.

I *think* the last story of this arc will be a Ryouma-with-his-team story. It promises to be amusing. For us, at least. ^_-

I've been reading your fic for a while, but I don't know that I've commented (I don't believe that I have.) I just wanted to say that I really enjoy your fic, especially the Mirror fics. (Admittedly, this is mostly because it gives me mental images of Yuuta being in control of Fuji and Mizuki and using his powers for ~~evil~~ good.) I'm happy that you're getting to the MomoRyo part, because...well, I wanna see Momo get pissed at Nanjiroh for how he's pushed Ryoma.

Maybe send me off on a few tangent stops, sure. ^____^ But F&L's starts in Momo's first year of HS and Ryoma's the agressor in that relationship so far (a true american go-getter anyone?), and I was cranky last night and excited to be reading more of your stuff (it really is crazy how excited I get to see a new story out by you).

Okay.... now I gotta book it cause the parentals wanna use the phone. Darn it! I *knew* there was another reason I disliked 56K's so much...

Several thoughts cross my mind.

I've seen the "up the hill" scenario before, and while I understand it, I think I'd like to see the ties truly broken... Seigaku (unlike Rikkai) has few ties between divisions, and I think it would be more "meaningful" to move on completely. We witness Yamato, who is in the senior division, and his presence is like a God descending.

I do like the "full circle" nature of this, and Ryoma's willfulness. I think next year will be a sadder year...

I do pity Momoshiro. I don't think I'd like to be captain of a club with Echizen as the star. Tezuka receives massive recognition because of his skill, and while Momoshiro is GOOD, he's not LEGENDARY.

*thoughtful* In another arc, I might make the break more distinct. For Mirror Writing, though, the premise was always that the team we know in Current Tenipuri Year had held together by and large. And that's most relevant for Ryouma. He's the one with the greatest need of other players that strong. If the break was complete... let's see... *winces* I think I'd be writing angst fic for him. Owwie.

*more thoughtful* Though, you know, aside from Ryouma, and Momo to an extent, I don't think anyone else is trekking up the hill; the social boundaries that we see in Yamato's case do hold. They're only overridden between Tezuka and Ryouma, with a few side effects. This may be because I've been listening to "Arigatou" too much. ^_^;

*looks over thoughts* I should make a note to make all this more evident, when I do final revisions.

*nods* Anyone coming after Tezuka has got a seriously raw deal. And all the more so, being sandwiched between Tezuka and Ryouma! *pets Momo*

I want to do that!!! ^_~ I think next year is going to be a sad year for Seigaku - but there's ways they can win. I'll be doing an RT post on it soon... I started it off with a vote, and strangely Kaidou and Momoshirou are about even with votes for who the next captain should be.

You don't see Kaidou working on maintaining the ties? I think if Momoshiro breaks the boundary first, Kaidou would be right on his heels - there's no WAY Kaidou will get ahead of him.

Actually, I'm kinda thinking Kaidou just, quietly, kept up his outside training with Inui. Hence, why he gets what Ryuuzaki-sensei means right away. *grins*

I don't really like Ryoma but you've given me a better perspective here. And oh man, Momo-buchou! It's so hot and I totally agree, between him and Kai, it's definitely Momo who will be buchou. :D I think you've painted a great picture on what it would be like. Actually, I think Kaidoh would make a really good captain...he unfortunately lacks the people skills. Unlike Tezuka who is still civil and reachable, people would probably just get scared off.

But that's just me. ^^ Momo is adorable. <3 Not only would he make a good captain but probably a good coach in the future. :D
