Weekend manga roundup

We already know my opinion on TRC is "will you get /on/ with it already!". Moving on.
Okay, now I just have to squee for a bit.
Riku is so cool!
Hiruma is SO COOL!
Also so evil, in that adorable way of his. Clearly, the plan to get Kid stirred up enough to actually want victory, despite his past, has worked.
I now have Hiruma/Kid bunnies popping up. Oh dear. But, really, the thing with the /darts/. I mean, /really/.
Okay, I think Seibu is going to win after all.
I was startled that Yukimura would want to /stop/ a true/sincere/all-out game. I mean, that's such a staple virtue of sports series, to play that way. And then, of course, I recalled that this isn't a sports series, it's a samurai story.
And in /that/ context, it makes a lot more sense. A proper samurai isn't supposed to put his personal pride before the needs of the clan/lord/mission/etc. So of course Yukimura would tell Sanada to calm down and do the job.
This is developing into a rather interesting shape, in which sports values (Tezuka) and samurai-story values (Sanada and Yukimura) comment on each other. Personally I don't believe it's intentional, but that doesn't change the inter-textual dialogue itself.
Well, this is actually a cumulative observation, over the last few issues, now I'm caught up. I'm coming increasingly to think that the Naruto-verse is not set in the past at all. Rather, I think it's post-apocalyptic. The new buildings all have that sinuous, curvy, organic shape to them. The old buildings, usually unpopulated ruins, one notes, look like modern city buildings.
This would also explain why there are strange, genetically linked psychic powers running around, that kind of being a staple of post-apocalyptic worlds in anime.
And this makes me wonder what this 'machine' the Mystery Man speaks of is. And does it have anything to do with the statue that eats/stores the biju? It certainly looks like it may.

Naruto actually seems to be getting down to the ending--slowly, to be sure.
And Eyeshield 21 is... well, it's Eyeshield 21. *beams* I love this manga so much. They are all so. cool.
