PSoH/PoT: Standalone: Wild

Fic post from my archive.
Pet Shop of Horrors crossover. While visiting the US, some of the tennis boys come across an unusual pet shop. This evolves, as such things do, into some strange situations for a few of them.
If anyplace could hold the interest of his senpai when they were determined to play tourist, he'd figured Chinatown would be it. Something was always happening.

He'd considered prodding one of the others into a match in the hotel ballroom,
*laughs* I've *never* considered doing that at a con. Never. I swear. Really. >>;

Date: 2004-12-26 09:55 pm (UTC)Sometimes, you know, I wish my brain didn't connect things the way it does. Em mentioned how fun it would be to watch D play tennis, and I promptly remembered my visualization of Yukimura as a dragon, which immediately led to "Dragon... Tiger!", and then I was just doomed. *sighs*
*snickers* Can't you just imagine our Magical Tennis Boys at a hotel, though? The staff would be traumatized by the time they left!

The anime is lovely, though far sketchier than the manga. I especially liked Seki Toshihiko's voicing of D.

So. Sanada-Fuji and Tachibana-Yukimura for doubles, and Atobe, Echizen, and Tezuka for singles? That's a team to give opposing coaches nightmares.
And I think D would like Oishi.
So what's Atobe?

Date: 2004-12-26 11:12 pm (UTC)...though I have no idea how a concept that should have been pure crack wound up so serious.
So what's Atobe
Oh, dear. I declined to bring him in on the craziness, but if he got a whiff, I think he'd probably show up as a swan. *mutters* Vicious buggers that they are--and with the whole breaking arms thing.

And this was absolutely awesome: you managed to combine my two favorite fandoms. For that, you get a gold sticker. XD

Date: 2004-12-27 06:38 am (UTC)Perhaps I'm being dense, which is possible, since it's after one am, but what did this line mean? "At least his mother would probably be happy."
I loved the fic in general, by the way. It's also very like Fuji to notice that Something is going on. I can never tell, in series, if Fuji is supposed to be just perceptive and cheerfully manipulative, or if Fuji is really psychic. Of course, then one has to decide the dividing line between psychic and extremely perceptive.

Date: 2004-12-27 05:10 pm (UTC)*laughs* Or only figuratively, anyway! Actually, I can just imagine Ryouma getting his muzzle whacked with a wing the first time he tried it and having to go rethink his approach. *snickers*
Ah, that line was in reference to his mother's preferance for Western style breakfasts. I'll make that more clear in next revisions. *makes note*
One does kind of wonder about Fuji. Especially with his sister and her tarot cards. In this case, I went with very perceptive. He was actually remarkably resistant to the idea that he might enter into any of the magic himself, for this story. I think it did work better, in the end, to give Tezuka and Ryouma both a normal human who still accepts all the weirdness without blinking.

Date: 2004-12-28 03:10 am (UTC)I definitely agree that in this case, Fuji as a normal human was the best option to go with, for the reason that you say.

Date: 2004-12-27 09:27 am (UTC)I'd just finished petshop of horrors for the first time when I read this...so I was still in the weird mind frame...
It was wonderful...sounds so believable...
More would be excellent
*begs desperately* (though no expectations of anything)
Must go back and reabsorb animal tezuka, fuji & ryoma.
Ja

Date: 2004-12-27 05:12 pm (UTC)I don't think this one will have a sequel. Though stories have surprised me before. It would be difficult to get D back into the action, at any rate. Hmmm. *ponders*

Loved it so much. THANK you for writing it!

Date: 2004-12-27 05:19 pm (UTC)*giggles* The ear-washing was the best way I could think of to translate Tezuka's human "I'm the boss" look into Cat. That whole section was huge fun to write.
Glad you liked it!

Date: 2004-12-28 07:28 pm (UTC)And the innuendo was just clever and perfect. It was in keeping with each of the characters, and subtly dispersed. It was a bit like a trainwreck. Because I really don't think I want to know what Kikumaru, Oshitari, and Gakuto are going to get up to and I rather pity Kaidoh but now my mind can't help but go in that direction. And the idea of Fuji and D being on the same continent, no, in the same hemisphere is so scary. I've always though that Fuji was very much like Count D, minus that special edge of viciousness that takes decades and beyond-normal abilities to hone. And I'm gushing because I'm so pleased. *sparkles*
I do have a tiny question. This line here: My family learned to take the mother's way, when we started to take humans as mates. I wasn't entirely sure which interpretation of 'mother' you were aiming for. Was the reader supposed to decide on their own? I freely admit to my laziness while sick.
You know, a story about Tezuka's adaption to human areas, his home life(and how do you tell a person you want to marry that you're a tiger?!?), or Tezuka's early time in Seigaku, would be very, very, interesting. *dangles carrot*

Date: 2004-12-28 08:39 pm (UTC)...and now you've got me thinking about a whole nother story set-up: what if Fuji is assumed to be psychic, how would he react to D then? *eyes new bunny*
Ah, about the mother thing. That was a reference to tiger family dynamics, that the daughters often establish territories alongside or even overlapping with their mother's. I did wonder if it needed to be more explicit. *makes revision notes*
Hmm. Now, there's a thought. Do you tell the person you want to marry? And how does one establish a proper territory when one isn't in a position of authority yet? ...all right, all right, I'll think about it. ^_-

Date: 2004-12-30 04:20 am (UTC)I was about to ask about the "mother's way" bit, too, actually. I'm glad I read the above comment first, so you won't have to answer same question twice.
Being a complete Pet Shop of Horrors uninitiate, I'll probably have a million questions later, when I get my Internet connection back. Hopefully, you won't mind it too much?
I'm in love. With your fic AND the PSoH ideas I mean. I think I'll march down to the local Barnes & Noble tomorrow and get whatever volumes they have. That will be the fourth fandom Emily-onee-sama has successfully hooked me on.
Behold the power of Emily-san's fanfics. >D

*giggles* You're fun to addict to new stories. *hearts some more*

Date: 2005-01-03 11:19 am (UTC)Oishi enthusiasim at the fish! Tezuka's tension and anxiety, Ryouma's snark *laughs* The are perfect (though for some reason Fuji seem slightly off). And in the words of Ryouma Yukimura as a Dragon makes -perfect- sense. (Though now I have the image of Yukimura decked out in FUll Chinese Court Regalia, face painted white and lips blood red, like a doll).
One small question, does Tezuka's (and Ryouma's) tiger form resemble those in the manga. The issues where the tiger in the painting comes to life.
LOVE!
no subject
Date: 2005-01-03 06:08 pm (UTC)...actually, Yukimura would be properly alarming in full regalia and makeup.
And, yeah, I was thinking along the lines of that tiger. Though also along the lines of Tina-the-cheetah.
Hm. Was Fuji too emotive? We never see him wig out except in a furiously-angry way, so I had to kind of feel my way into how he might wig out from weirdness. Do you think he would be more the deadly-calm type, even here?
no subject
Date: 2005-01-04 02:48 am (UTC)Oh, very alarming, but you'd at least get to see Sanada's expression in that split second before the brain melts completely *giggles*
Tina-the-cheetah!!!! CUTE! (scary but cute)
I think Fuji would definitely react though I think he'e keep it more in check after the initial surprise. And I have this cracked theory that Fuji would have some sort latent psychic abilities, 'cos you know Evil Tensai and a sister who does -really- accurate tarot reading. Hence, even if he didn't know what was going on he'd know something was the going on Begore he encounters it. A bit like Touya's powers, except toned down. And this has gotten off topic, to answer your question, I'd have to say he'd be more deadly-come (though -only- after a show of surprise).
If you ever decide to write more in this universe.... *smiles* *snuggles*
