The elf deserves all the attention he can get, bless him. And this is lovely (even if the circle-affirming violence still bothers me).

And, yeah, it makes me twitch, too. But it's the best theory to fit the evidence I've come up with yet. *sighs*

Not eclipses; it's more obscure than that. ^_^; Dragons, actually. I considered 'pearl' instead of 'moon', except that has another set of associations I wanted to not invoke. >_>

So I've noticed. *scowls at Google* Obscure indeed. I'm having trouble figuring out which words I need to plug in. All I'm turning up is variations of Rahu.
