roy and convalescence

Theories about Roy's injury.
First things first. *growls direly at the writers for such an unlikely combination of indications*
So. Head injury from being shot. Results, apparently, in blinding in the left eye. Substantial exsanguination (puddle about two feet across). He does not die, and is unhospitalized if still convalescent within, it seems, six months. Wears a patch, though, which suggests scarring. Also uses a cane which suggests some difficulty in regaining balance or depth perception.
Supposition: It was a glancing shot that struck either across the eye or striking the orbit as Roy was turning in an attempt to dodge/escape. For the sake of reason, let's say it was an injury to the bone that caused optical nerve damage secondarily. (Because if he took a bullet straight on enough to damage the eyeball it would have gone through to hit the brain almost for certain.) So he probably has some scarring over or beside the eye, and, if the nerve was impinged by a cracked bone, may have lost both sight and sensation. Which might explain the patch, since a blind eye doesn't know when to blink, and may be patched to protect the structure from further damange.
This after being stabbed in the shoulder and having upper chest muscles cut up a bit. Obviously it did not hit the lung or sever tendons as he still has use of the left hand.
The question, of course, is how did his convalescence progress? The longest recovery items would probably be the cracked bone of the orbit and, presumably, of the scapula from being stabbed. Say two to three months with the shoulder imobilized and under close observation as the orbit bone reknits. Then light activity.

Date: 2005-11-16 03:34 am (UTC)It's still pretty amazing that he did live, but it seems at least possible. Especially since he was reached immediately after, and presumably Hawkeye knew enough to at least apply pressure bandages until the ambulance arrived. Come to think of it, that might have been when the optic nerve was impinged. *pleased*
So it's possible! Not like, you know, playing all-out tennis games two weeks after neural surgery. *coughKonomiyouidiotcough*

XD Gotta love anime medical knowledge.
