In today’s words, Yunlan articulates an epiphany regarding his dad and instead of one more story of fluffy honeymoon-slash-training-journey shenanigans, I have yet another story to write before that about Zhao Xinci’s damage.

...also, I need a segment about Fu You, for Shen Wei’s Angst Through Every Age of China. Because of course I do. Remind me again why I thought a drama-novel fusion would be a good idea?

Oh, wait, right. Because ten thousand years of angst. *sighs*

Okay, Guo Ying, I think it’s down to you and me to do what amounts to rape recovery counseling for your Director of Supervision. *watches her character wisely attempt to hide under the bed* Likewise, buddy, likewise.

Ooooh can you say why Zhao Xinci has that damage without spoiling the fic? Is that something that came out of setting up this particular story or something you headcanon?

Zhang Shi. However pragmatic Zhao Xinci looked to be about it in the one scene we got of his reaction, the fact remains that he was possessed without his consent, and then spent, what, twenty years literally fighting for control of his own mind, body, and actions. We are led, as viewers, to sympathize with Zhang Shi because he’s acting in the better cause, the more moral cause, but many of his actions themselves are deeply immoral, when you get down to it. My Yunlan articulated this, so here I am trying to write some small step toward dealing with it. Especially given that Zhao Xinci is /still/ an asshole! He’s a raging asshole! He’s... just a raging asshole with some solid reasons for some of his more extreme reactions. *sighs*

*grins* So much angst. It was huge fun to write.
