The batshitness of the backstory is killing me

For real, I thought it was just the usual fandom moaning over a little plot slippage, but the tv-Guardian backstory is so utterly what-the-actual-fuck that I can pretty much only console myself with novel-Guardian backstory.

Well, that and a new Zhao Yunlan expression, pursuant to young Shen Wei and that lollipop, which I would loosely translate as "omg, I'm so sorry for every time I did that, please just fuck me now for god's sake". Subtitle "I've created a monster and I'm /not sorry at all/".

For the benefit of future reference, and also of other fans who, like me, greatly prefer to go into a series well-spoiled:

Though that is the moment that I think he may see exactly why Shen Wei held himself back for so long, and probably appreciates the irony of finding himself in basically the same position.
