starlady has, in addition to writing up her own cogent summaries of why she will be voting the way she will, posted a list of links to other people writing similar reflections.
I strongly encourage anime/manga fans who have any interest in or contact with the OTW to read these, and that goes twice if you're eligible to vote in this election.
You know what really bums me out? That despite having donated, I won't be eligible, because I donated after the 17th. Because I didn't care enough about what was going on with the OTW to donate before the candidates started making their platforms clear via chats and interviews. Meh.
It's really sort of indicative of how deep the problems run: no reason to donate until after it becomes apparent that there's a reason to care, but then it's too late. Bah.
I'll be voting. Having not known much at all before the election cycle but followed the candidate chats and questions, I am planning to vote for Betsy R., partly because I do think legal is so essential, and partly because when the question of anime/manga outreach was asked, her suggestion of supporting fan translation work impressed me a lot more than the talk of graphic design and skin capabilities that was going around. Other than that, tho, I'm agreeing with the linked post.
But I also have such hermitage-induced naivete I didn't realize the minefield I was stepping into when I decided to do Yuletide, either... (Currently having a blowup about new rules that pretty much require participants to request at least one specific canon character, which turns out to be overly prescriptive for a lot of people...)
