My personal canon for Cordy is kind of bound up in my general conviction that the premises of Angel and The Powers That Be in particular is nonsensical. So, according to my personal canon, Cordelia was tricked by beings that are not, in fact, benevolent, and is, in fact, spiritually incarcerated. And she's trying to pick the lock, because she's just that kind of stubborn, and is muttering under her non-celestial breath the whole time about how she should have known better and next time she will keep a proper grip on her cynicism and snark and look twice outside the box. And at some point she and Spike are going to or maybe already have had a meeting as not-exactly-heavenly beings and strike up a deal to help each other get out of dodge. This may well result in a life-long friendship or soul-mate-ship of snark which will make the world and afterworld, and especially Angel, quail.
