Is that the one being translated as Wallflower? Sunako? I love Sunako to little bitty peices, and this did remind me of that some.
And yes, though I still can't make up my mind whether I think the beach ep was a critique or a reinscription of gender roles. A little of both, I think, in that Tamaki meant "I was worried for you" but he himself can't detach that worry from Haruhi's girl-ness. *wry* Kind of along the same lines as him accepting her surface at the start and not twigging until he actually saw boobs. And I don't think that's a view that's really supported by the story, yet... in that particular episode, even Kyouya put it in those terms when he was trying to ring the wakeup bell over Haruhi's head.
... if that was, in point of fact, what he was doing, which I'm not one hundred percent sure of.
