branchandroot: oak against sky (Default)
*nods* I visited it myself, over Winter break, while I was at Sussex. It was indeed very disappointing. *chuckles* Though my roomate, up from Caen, met a self-proclaimed Bard, there, who said he was going to jump the ropes later in the day (Winter Solstice) and see how many notes he could play inside before being carted off. That was amusing. I think in the end they both went up to Avebury, instead, while the rest of us checked out Salisbury Cathedral and got dinner.

It was extremely... isolated, which makes is a bit hard to remember, actually. I got much more of a sense of the history of the thing from the cathedral. Which was under construction at the time, if I recall.
