branchandroot: oak against sky (Default)
*attempts for the nth time to seriously address the allegation that multishippers are culpably disrespectful of the characters in question, and insufficiently "loyal" to the pairings*

*once again collapses, laughing hysterically*

Oh, my. Nope, I'm afraid this one is a lost cause. I just can't keep a straight face long enough. This may be the most asinine thing I've heard this year, in fandom--and that takes some doing.

Repeat after me, children. Pairings do not equal kingdoms or nations. The sensation of pressure on the borders will in no way be followed by invasion, rapine and suppression of the previous inhabitants. No, really, it won't. There is no excuse to get so hostile toward people with more than one in-group identity; it is not, actually, a threat to your personal integrity and security.

Go get some fresh air and calm the fuck down.

ETA: All right, in point of fact, fandoms and pairings and character preferences do function exactly like national/tribal identities.

That does not make it any less stupid to behave as if actual safety and survival is at stake in the clashes between such fandom tribes.
