Some Notes on Guardian

So, as is typical when I have a new series to play with, I am indulging in watching-and-rewatching, research, and fic writing all folded together. This has resulted in a few moments of entertainment that seemed worth sharing.

One: my re-watch has gotten to ep 15, one of my favorites, and I don’t think the coin entirely dropped the first time but it’s far more obvious this time through. Yunlan shoehorns himself into the expedition to Dixing, the realm that is straight-up inimical to human life, almost completely in order to avoid having to deal with his father. That’s some olympic-grade avoidance, there. I mean, I can’t entirely blame him, but wow. Yeah, that's some extra panic in chapter 5 all right.

Two: also more evident on re-watch is that Yunlan has a moment of ‘oh shit, that was hot’ when Shen Wei loses his temper. *dotes on the pair of them*

Three: oh god, you have no idea how tempted I am to write in a little cosmological easter egg in which Shen Wei realizes that he is the source of the figure of Xi Wang Mu. So, so tempted.

I've broken off my rewatch because I fell into a Nirvana in Fire shaped hole but I still want to get back to it! Damnit.

IT ALREADY HAS. *cries* I‘m still reading fix its to stench the flow of blood.

I know, right? It's just /brutal/. It makes you love everyone, and even sympathize with the villains, and then slowly and meticulously kills off all hope. Thank goodness for fic, or I'd probably have been crying for /weeks/.
