Every time I see "We'll just have the tag wranglers handle it!" I die a little inside. Throwing a ton of volunteer labor at a problem that would have been totally avoidable (edit: well, no, not totally avoidable. But far more manageable) with a little structure upfront doesn't mean that it makes any sense not to have just provided the structure. But the philosophy over there equates structure with fascism, basically. I left a comment saying "hey, I sure wish your organizational system meant each story had enough metadata to tell if it's a crossover or not so we could filter on that," and the person who replied just assumed I meant that each story should only be able to have one fandom and users shouldn't be able to add tags and crossovers should be second-class stories. I don't even know where to start with that mindset. "Complete disorganized freedom" and "rigid top-down dictation" are not the only options!
