*nodnod* I think even leaving the Author Tags hyperlinked would be fine, as long as it's clear they won't be wrangled. They're folksonomy in the wild, and whether they link up to anything else or not is pure serendipity. Visually separating them, in the blurb, should help with that; I like the idea of them going under the summary.

God, I hear you so much about the pulldowns. It's just that they'd be so long for some fandoms... although... I wonder if we could manage multi-level pulldowns for the cast-of-thousands fandoms. Those are usually broken up into some kind of useful subdivisions--teams or species or whatever.

The Trope/Genre would probably have to be some kind of cloud in a pop up from which you could select. There are already something like five thousand of those, and even flattened into their ultimate parent tags, I'm betting it would be well over a thousand total after retrofitting.
