I will say, in contrast to one of your points about art style, that when I read a volume of Wish I saw all the angels as women and was surprised to be told that they were supposedly androgynous. It took me nearly the entire volume to see Kohaku as non-gendered rather than a girl, and I never managed that trick with the long-haired angel (Hisui?). But that is probably down to me not being fluent in the nuances of CLAMP's use of gender markers, the same way a lot of Westerners will see many bishonen as feminine. :-/
