PSA: LJ eliminating "unspecified" gender and requiring that field

LJ is eliminating the "unspecified" gender option, and from Thursday or so on will require that the gender field be filled out (with male or female) upon account creation

ETA: LJ has rolled back the code in question! See, if we catch it early enough, sometimes we can have an effect.

Of course, the replies to concerned citizens are pretty well lying about the particulars, in that Corporate-speak, ass-covering way so near and dear to all our hearts after previous go-rounds.

*rueful* Yeah, just about that. I have spread some of my invite codes around on LJ and the code sharing comm, since I anticipate a bit of unrest from those still making LJ their primary home.

I must say, that's a nice example of backpedaling if ever I saw one. Also, I'll believe their backpedal if my LJ profile doesn't yell at me to specify a gender next time I edit it.

Perhaps I'll have a use for those extra codes I've had floating around now.

Fortunately, they have backpedaled, which gives me a bit of a warm and fuzzy feeling, because I suspect they did it because we screamed so loud early enough.
