*thoughtful nod* I have less problem with it in the anime, as the anime spent less time building up Sanada. Unless it happens in 116-19, and I missed it. But I've kind of been taking Yukimura as the one who matches Tezuka.

I should add that, at this point, I'm pretty much taking the anime and manga as two different continuities. They're very close, but they just don't match anymore. I think the assumptions of both strength and particular personal bonds are different. Ex: the Yanagi v Inui match in the manga did not feature the use of a clue-bat inscribed with InuKai. It was all Renji/Inui. And the anime seems to be playing down Fuji's strength a bit.

But back to the point. I found it a bit jarring that even Ryouma should have managed to level up quite so quickly, but it is also true that everyone has been remarking on the fantastic speed with which Ryouma is progressing/evolving. Progression is in character for him, even if not, perhaps, that much. Sanada, on the other hand, while he's been working himself very hard, has not had a real spur all this time. Yukimura is a... well, a moral spur, but he isn't present to play Sanada, and it doesn't seem that anyone else on his own team could win over him and give him a target to progress toward. And, too, he knows Tezuka, the one on Seigaku who might have been expected to do that, is gone. And he's defeated Ryouma soundly once (anime).

I suppose what it all comes down to is that, yes, that was a discontinuity however you look at it. But I was sufficiently taken with the way it was done that I'll expend effort to rationalize it. ^_^;

I will be absolutely fascinated to see how the manga handles this.

Oh! That reminds me. I'm getting the manga scanlations from Becky (darling, wonderful woman). When I have it all, I'm going to see if I can put it up at my own site long enough for you and a few of my other friends to download. *angelic* Joy is meant to be shared.

True, true. I think when discussing Ryouma's progression, one must distinguish between the anime and the manga.

I have no idea how the anime portrayed Sanada (have stopped watching somewhere during the Rokaku matches), but the manga spend much time venerating his abilities as a tennis player, and how he was as good as Tezuka.

As for the match between Renji and Inui *sigh happily* I absolutely love Inui. I love, love, love, love, love, love, love HIM! *squeee*

Thats the thing, as long as the mangaka can pull it off, I'll be happy. I'm dying to see what happens, but at the same time I'm absolutely terrified of seeing it being screwed up.
