Renji gets an offer and wibbles hesitates over it; Byakuya pounds talks some sense into him. Drama, I-3

Renji liked to think that he stayed alert for anything, even when he was at home.

Anything, however, didn't usually include a tiny brat of a fellow vice-captain landing on his shoulders and pounding him on the head with a small but very hard fist.

It is so them. Renji would so say no to a promotion if he think he hasn't reached the level of his captain, and Byakuya would so nominate Renji because he think Renji is right for the job (and he would defeinitely find the weirded out look amusing). And absolutely love the other captains (and their vice captains). Perfect!

and being the Byakuya/Renji fangirl that I am, I see m/m subtext.

Though you're going to be disappointed in the romance angle. The interaction between these two says intense, but the romance is purely Rukia-Renji.

Renji keeps telling me that B/R would work, but I think that's just his kinks speaking, several of which he inherited from me. It's the hair. I'd write it... if I could just think of a vaguely plausible occasion.
