Grecell has been a winner so far, for the batteries, though you kind of have to average the "full" performance with the "less than half full" performance. the lower they get, the faster they drain, just like the last 20% on a phone.
Foam sheets would be an excellent solution for my windows (all of which face south) with those deep casements they have. [makes a note]
