In their defense, though I do find all this /deeply/ disturbing, they really are very good at giving the young girls and very young women agency. They get to have power and romance both, it's a pretty sweet deal. There's a lot of philosophy spent on the nature of love, fate, justice and such, and the girls always make a difference, usually The Big Important difference. Just... don't grow up.

And, of course, they have lots of pretty boys. *rueful*
